Here at Absolute, we strive to maintain a healthy and green lawn for our customers. Water is a big factor and catalyst that can make or break the look of a yard. Hydration is key, so we have created a short and easy, but beneficial guide on how to maintain that green grass through the summer months!

Every spring, around the time when you notice all of the grass, shrubs, and forest going from brown to lush green, that's when it begins. The temperature starts to rise past that freezing point in Calgary. Things start to naturally get green with the warmth and moisture in the air. This is spring clean up season.

Spring cleanup is a very important season for your yard, as it has sat under snow all winter, and now needs a little love! Power raking and deep core aeration greatly help your lawn to breathe and take in more nutrients. Fertilizer and lawn food can also help with this annual rejuvenation.

A Watering Schedule is the most useful and easy thing you can do to maintain a healthy, green lawn. Mother Nature decides on when it rains so when its hot and dry, the grass needs help. Early mornings are best as it is still cool from the nighttime and your lawn will absorb the nutrients better than if you watered it during a scorching hot day. 5 - 6 times a week, early in the morning (and/or at night) will be enough hydration for your lawn to stay healthy through the summer.

Tip: Cutting grass higher (2-3 inches) will help improve its ability to hold its green colour, and it allows the roots to build a stronger and thicker foundation in the soil.
